Life Between Films

I have been MIA and not doing as many posts as I would like because I have been recovering (and still recovering) from dental surgery (damn you, wisdom teeth!), but I currently filling out my ballot and soon will be heading to Golden Globes party (pain be damned!). I’m a geek films so of course I’m a geek for movie award season. One of my good friends is hosting a party so I’m so there, with wine in hand. Looking forward to the ever funny Ricky Gervais hosting again. We are of course doing a pool for money (I’m in it to win in!). I haven’t seen many of the top contenders which I admit is rare and puts me at a disadvantage.  But I’m giving it a go. Here are my picks for some of the top awards:

UPDATE (1/16): So I did pretty ok in my picks for the awards; not perfect but I did win the pool! I won like $10 so get that fancy dress I’ve been eyeing, lol. :)

Best Film, Drama: The Descendants - critics and award voters love George Clooney, enough said. 
Best Film, Comedy or Musical: The Artist - I haven’t this but I do appreciate the gusto involved in developing a silent movie for the modern-day audience and pulling it off
Best Director: Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist) - kudos, Mr. Director
Best Actor, Drama: George Clooney (The Descendants) - see explanation above
Best Actress, Drama: Viola Davis (The Help) - Meryl Streep, beware. Viola, I love you.
Best Actor, Comedy or Musical: Jean Dujardin (The Artist) - entertaining even in the trailer
Best Actress, Comedy or Musical: Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids) - okay, so, it’s not very likely that the Foreign Press would give any award to a “raunchy” movie like this, but I think it’s well deserved here. Best Supporting Actor: Christopher Plummer (Beginners) - one of my favorite movies in 2011 and it was primarily due to him
Best Supporting Actress: Octavia Spencer (The Help) - it’s about time she gets a good role and some recognition for it

Best TV Series, Dama: Homeland - my favorite new drama of the season
Best TV Series, Comedy or Musical: Modern Family - if I had my way, it would be New Girl but I do know how beloved this show is, even if I do watch it
Best Actress, Drama: Claire Danes (Homeland) - one of my favorite actresses since you so brillantly captured my teen angst on My So-Called Life; she is brilliant on this show
Best Actor, Drama:  Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) - I would vote Danes’ Homelandcostar Damien Lewis, but Cranston has been getting accolades for this show for awhile
Best Actor, Comedy or Musical: Matt LeBlanc (Episodes) - LeBlanc was the best part of this show; it’s good to see a FRIEND doing great things
Best Actress, Comedy or Musical: Zooey Deschanel (New Girl) - okay, I know she’s probably the underdog even in a category that doesn’t have a clear frontrunner, but how great is she is this show?
