“American Hustle”
Based on the true events of the FBI Abscam operation of the 70s, the story follows a con artist (Christian Bale) and his partner in crime and mistress (Amy Adams), who were forced to work with a federal agent (Bradley Cooper) to turn the tables on other cons, mobsters, and one politicians - namely, the volatile mayor of impoverished Camden, New Jersey (Jeremy Renner).
Take one part The Fighter (Amy Adams, Christian Bale… and that comeback kid survival story) and one part Silver Linings Playbook (Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper… and that love story of two unlike-lies), throw in a coiffed, corrupt Jenner Renner to mix it up a bit and you get the David O. Russell’s next film, American Hustle. I can’t say that I’m too taken with the trailer (the second one to drop in the last few moments) for its content (I’m more concerned with where I can get those shades Adams is wearing), but I’m hopeful due to the cast (even though I still contend J Law is overrated… cue backlash). American Hustle comes to a US theater near you on Christmas Day.
